Brandix and other apparel companies have proposed to invest more than Rs 2,000 crore for setting up of an integrated textile complex in the district. The state government allotted 1,000 acres at the proposed Andhra Pradesh SEZ in the district.
"We have allotted 1,000 acres of land to Brandix for the development of a textile complex. But the progress of work is not as fast as you (Brandix) have promised. You should speed up the work to attract more number of foreign apparel units to the zone," the chief minister told the company's representatives on Monday.
Brandix has promised to ensure employment for about 60,000 people in its proposed garment unit and is negotiating with other foreign apparel companies for setting up of their units in the SEZ.
The Brandix representatives assured the chief minister that 1,200 people would get jobs by May 2007, and 5,000 by March 2008. Its full employment potential of 60,000 would be realised only by 2010-11.
Reddy told reporters that his government was working with unwavering commitment to complete all the projects notwithstanding the 'skepticism' and 'baseless allegations' of the opposition parties in the state.
