Dedicated Freight Corridor to have 10 private logistics parks

As many as 10 privately owned logistics parks will come up along the Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC). This was informed by PN Shukla, director (operations and business development), Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India Ltd (DFCCIL) today in Ahmedabad.

"Around 10 privately owned logistics parks on DFC are in planning stage. Of these, one or two may come up in Gujarat, four to five in NCR region and two in Maharashtra," Shukla said speaking at a one day International Conference on Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC), Special Investment Regions (SIRs), SEZs and Multi-Modal Logistic Parks in Ahmedabad.

Apart from this, the study undertaken by RITES, a government of India enterprise, for DFC has suggested six logistic parks to be developed throught public private partnership (PPP) in NCR region (Rewari), Ahmedabad, Vapi, Navi Mumbai on Western corridor annd Kanpur, Ludhiana and Durgapur on Eastern corridor.

"We are proposing to establish new logistic parks in Kanpur and Navi Mumbai, while we are in final stage of awarding study for Ahmedabad logistic park," he added. Also, DFC has aims to develop logistic parks at Jaipur, Palanpur, Vadodara and Dadri.

The project cost for setting up logistic park is Rs 1,480 crore, of which land cost is Rs 147 crore and construction cost is Rs 704 crore.

"The land for logistics parks will be acquired by DFCCIL independently or in joint venture with state governments," he added.

Shukla also sought involvement, participation and support of the state governments for logistics parks. DFCC has asked the Gujarat government to identify possible location for logistics parks at Ahmedabad and Palanpur.

The proposed logistics parks will have facilities such as freight consolidation center, auto park-cum-loading facility and industrial center.

As per the presentation made by DFCCIL director, a total cost of developing 3318 kms of eastern and western corridor is Rs 50,581 crore at 2009 prices. The cost for Western Corridor (1483 kms) is Rs 26,124 crore, while for Eastern Corridor (1835 kms) is Rs 24,457 crore.
