Another training centre will be set up in Ahmedabad in association with the state.

Eicher signed MoUs with NIE and the Gujarat government at Eicher's plant in Pithampur, according to NIE-Institute of Industrial Technology director G.L Shekar.

Eicher CEO A Ramasubramanian said, when India has become a destination for manufacturing in general and for automobile engineering in particular there is a huge requirement of human capabilities.

Eicher is involved in the design, manufacturing, marketing and sales of light, medium and heavy commercial vehicles and its spare parts with a turnover Rs 2,500 crore.

As part of corporate social responsibility programmes, it will start job-oriented training programmes to equip students, faculty members, industry personnel and other learners with technological knowhow in automobile engineering to meet the growing demands of skilled manpower in the automotive sector in India, he said.

Head of consumer service A Nandakumar said, NIE was the first engineering college in the country to get a full-fledged training centre of Eicher Motors and will be called NIE-Eicher Knowledge Centre.

The objective of the collaboration was to familiarise students with the latest automobile technology and demonstrate to them the most scientific way to repair, maintain and overhaul commercial vehicles, and also to teach them modern manufacturing techniques.

Large-scale training of mechanics and drivers will also be taken up to deal with safe driving and fuel conservation. "We intend to develop these two centres to world class standards," he added.
