The vintage plant of country's largest power producer had recorded above 90 per cent Plant Load Factor (PLF) in the financial year 2012-13 and set a record. The commercial production in the plant started in 1983 and achieving above 90 per cent PLF at an age of 30 years was outstanding performance.
"The Korba station of the company is concentrating to execute the best in the field of environment protection and pollution control," the company official said. The General Manager, S K Roy led the team for mass plantation in the township area besides launching a special programme for creating awareness.
The company officials said that the power station had achieved zero water discharge status and 100 per cent ash-water is recycled for reuse. "In addition to this, water harvesting structures have been installed for restoration of the useful natural resource," they added.
Similarly, ammonia dozing is undertaken in all units to keep the emission level under control. Ambient Air Quality Monitoring Systems have been installed at foura locations to keep tabs on the pollution level.
The station has been rigorously following an effective ash management system through brick manufacturing, sprinkling on ash mount and restoration of ash dyke through earth cover and plantation, the officials said.
A green cover of over 18,00,000 plants had been completed in and around the power station.The station had established a 2x20 KW mini-hydel power station, the first of its kind by NTPC, costing around Rs 1crore at village Nakkiya in Korba district.
The power station would provide electricity from renewable sources to around 300 households.
