ET Marlabs, a Bengaluru-based technology services firm, is looking at overseas expansion, primarily in the US, with number of small and medium adopting cloud applications. Through ET Marlabs, Salesforce offers implementation, customization, integration, and maintenance services for Salesforce Sales Cloud, Service Cloud, and Desk.com.

"A lot of the work that we do is in India. Last year we saw 87 per cent of our business came from India. We would like to slightly shift that to 60 per cent from India and 40 per cent overseas. We are resellers of the software and implementation partner. Now, we have also built a product. It is a Sales and Distribution system," George Varghese, CEO & MD, ET Marlabs, said.

Large IT services companies like Accenture, Infosys, and other have in the recent past started offering services under similar platforms for small ticket-size projects. Last week, India's third largest software exporter Wipro acquired Appirio, a company that does substantial work on the Salesforce platform.

According to Varghese, the key to success for these smaller IT services companies is the faster delivery. "It is a completely different world. What used to take months (for software project implementation), we have to do everything in two weeks. I think that's where smaller companies have a competitive edge compared with the larger companies," he said.

New generation companies such as Flipkart, Urban Ladder are making faster decisions when it comes to implementation of such technologies compared with their bigger counterparts. "They don't look at Salesforce as just one slice, but as a very strategic investment for an ecosystem including aspects like servicing, marketing or customer relationship management," he said.
