Hindi general entertainment channel (HGEC) Star Plus is planning to launch a slew of new programmes with 'fresh content' in a bid to maintain its leadership as new entrants like Colors catch up.
"We are launching four new shows in March with fresh content that has strong consumer focus and differentiated variety of programmes," Star India Executive Vice-President Anupam Vasudev told PTI.
The channel will be Replacing Aap Ki Kachehri, which is currently undergoing a 'season break', with a new shows like 'Chehra', 'Shaurya aur Suhani' and 'Sabki Laadli Bebo'.
Star Plus, which was the leader in the HGEC space since 2000, is now facing the heat from Colors within nine months of launch.
According to target rating point (TRPs), which represents the audience viewership, Colors is just one point away from becoming numero uno, while in terms of prime time viewership, Colors has already toppled Star.
With programming content like Balika Vadhu and airing of blockbuster movies with fewer commercial breaks, Colors has reached the top spot within months of its launch.
"We are launching new shows that have something different to offer. Chehra for example is a suspense thriller," Vasudev said.
