The construction work of the first project of GAIL India, in Kerala, Kochi-Kootanad-Mangalore-Bangalore natural gas pipeline, is scheduled to commence from October, 2010.
The project, having about 915 km of underground pipeline of regasified liquified natural gas, passes through seven northern districts of Kerala, seven districts of Tamil Nadu and three districts of Karnataka before reaching at Bangalore and Mangalore, A K Vijayakumar, executive director of the company, told reporters here today.
He said the project will be implemented in two phases with an investment of Rs 3,032 crore.
The first phase of the project with an investment of Rs 267.50 crore is scheduled to be completed by March 2012, covering Eloor, Kalamassery and Ambalamugal industrial belt. While the second phase from Eloor-Koottanad-Bangalore and Koottanad to Mangalore, involving an investment of Rs 2,764.50 crore is expected to be completed by December 2012, K P Ramesh, company's deputy general manager said.
Ramesh said the company plans to lay a sub-sea pipeline to NTPC, Kayamkulam, for which initial surveys were completed.
