"GE Shipping has placed an order for two new Kamsarmax dry bulk carries with Tsuneishi Shipbuilding company, Japan, the country's largest private sector shipping firm said in a statement.
These vessels will be built at the Yard's facility in Philippines, it said, without giving financial details.
"The contracted ships, of about 81,600 DWT each, will be built according to the new design features which will result in greater fuel efficiency and in compliance with energy efficiency design index requirements," the statement said.
The vessels are expected to join the fleet in 2015-16.
The firm's current fleet of 28 will go up to 31 by then, as it recently placed an order for a very large gas carrier.
The company scrip closed at Rs 218.90, up 1.34% from the previous close on the BSE.
