Speaking to reporters here, GM India President and Managing Director, Karl Slym said that component sourcing from India has witnessed a 10-12 per cent growth this year, when compared to last fiscal.
"The focus for the company is the domestic markets and we do dispatch our cars in a small way to Nepal, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka but we will consider exports if such an opportunity exists," Slym said.
GM India would not confine itself to the small car market, he added. GM India will open a design centre in Bangalore later this year.
An upgradation of its existing facility is likely to see a headcount increase of around 2,000 people, over the next two years.
The company, which was to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Gujarat Government to adopt an Industrial Training Institute (ITI) in Vadodara this month was forced to shelve the official announcement in order not to violate the Election Commission's code of conduct.
GM India plans to pledge Rs 30-40 lakh for a period of three years to the ITI, and help develop the curriculum and training programmes.
