Nokoda Textiles is setting up a windfarm at Tiruneveli in the state at an investment of Rs 41 crore.
The Surat-based drawn yarn manufacturer said it would finance the project through internal accruals and term loans. The plant, expected to commence operations by the end of this month, will have nine turbines of 750 mega watt each.
The entire power generated form the plant would be supplied to the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB).
Company chairman and managing director, Babubai Jain, said being a green energy project, the company would also be eligible for carbon credits. The project will be company’s entry into clean power, he added.
The company has acquired turbines from Global Wind Power Ltd, promoted by the Reliance ADAG Group, Nokoda said in a filing to the Bombay Stock Exchange.
