HMSI aims 18% sales growth for FY '09-'10

Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India Private Limited (HMSI), the two-wheeler subsidiary of Honda Motor Company has set a sales growth target of 18 per cent for the financial year 2009-10, officials said here during the launch of its new Honda Activa variant, its first in west zone of the country.

"HMSI aims to continue being the leader in the market and looks forward to continue meeting the customers' requirement with the changing times. The company will achieve 10.7 lakh sales mark in this financial year 2008-09 with growth of 18 per cent over last year. Morever, we have set a target to produce 12.5 lakh two-wheeler units in the next financial year," said Prabhu Nagaraj, assistant general manager – customer service.

"We are aiming at further expansion of scooter market with new Activa and have set challenging plan to sell 5.5 lakh new Activa in year 2009-10," said Anurag Saxena, zonal manager Gujarat.

Recently, HMSI increased manufacturing capacity of the plant from 10 lakh to 12.5 lakh units. For this the company has already invested Rs. 900 crore and another Rs 300 crore will be invested in 2009-10, officials said.

Talking about the new variant of Activa, Saxena said that the vehicle's metal body ensures more durability while the tuff-up tube in rear tyre makes it more reliable.

Being promoted with the punchline 'Joy ON & ON' New Honda Activa will be available in six colors at an ex-showroom Rajkot price of Rs 41,224.
