Honeywell Turbo Technologies, an automotive turbocharger development company has developed a turbo application with optimised aerodynamics for micro 2-cylinder diesel engines below 1.0L.

This application is currently being deployed in India on 0.8L engines. Honeywell currently supplies its turbochargers to almost all local and global OEMs present in India. In addition, it serves as an export hub for customers spread throughout the globe.

These turbos help global engine platforms achieve Euro IV, Euro V and Euro VI emission standards. Additionally, Honeywell has launched several turbocharger applications including turbochargers for Tata's Indica V2 model (1.4L WG turbo engine), generating mileage of 25 km per litre.

Commenting on this development, Thimmaiah NP, general manager and managing director of Honeywell Turbo Technologies said, "Honeywell is outpacing the local market by developing products for our global and domestic customers in India specific to India's market based on our proven technology from Europe and around the world. With a manufacturing facility and technical center already established here in India, Honeywell expects to become the dominant turbo technology supplier in the market."

According to Honeywell, within the light vehicle segment, turbo penetration in India has grown from 27 per cent in 2010 to 31 per cent in 2011. It is expected to reach more than 40 per cent penetration by 2016.

Honeywell's turbo business sales have tripled in India during the past three years and the manufacturing capacity of the plant in Pune now exceeds more than million and a half units with an ever expanding portfolio of turbos for diesel powered passenger vehicles as well as on and off highway commercial vehicles.

Honeywell Turbo Technologies opened its manufacturing facility in Pune in 2005, and has subsequently expanded its Indian operations to include product development and testing activities for both global and local automotive applications at its technology center in Bangalore.
