Hyundai launches i20 Active, starting price at Rs 6.83 lakh

It will compete with Toyota's Etios Cross, Volkswagen's Cross Polo and Fiat's Avventura

Hyundai Motor India on Tuesday launched sports-styled premium hatchback i20 Active. Priced starting at Rs 6.38 lakh, targeting the aspirational, metropolitan, enthusiastic and value-seeking, young risers.

Petrol variants i20 Active are priced between Rs 6.38-7.09 lakh and diesel versions are in the range of Rs 7.63-8.89 lakh.

"The i20 Active will be a trend setter model reflecting Hyundai's modern premium brand direction and will propel Hyundai's growth in India," Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL) MD & CEO, B S Seo told reporters here.

The i20 Active will compete with Toyota's Etios Cross, Volkswagen's Cross Polo and Fiat's Avventura that are priced between Rs 6.23 lakh and Rs 8.5 lakh.

Hyundai is eyeing to sell five lakh units in domestic market this year and is gearing up for a full play in the fast-emerging sports utility vehicle segment.

In February, Hyundai Motor India's sales increased 9.7 per cent to 37,163 units as compared to 33,875 units earlier, according to data published by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (Siam).

Last month, Hyundai launched the updated version of its mid-sized sedan Verna, priced starting Rs 7.74 lakh.
