The Integral Coach Factory (ICF) at Perambur near here has registered a 26 per cent increase in production during April-May, 2009, over the same period last year.

ICF turned out 179 coaches during April-May against 142 in the same period last year, which is also the highest-ever in a bi-monthly period, a statement said here today.

The 26 per cent production rise has been achieved despite higher production of heavy-build-coaches that require additional man hours, severe summer conditions and holiday due to the general election, it said.

The production is 33 per cent higher in terms of 'Equated Coach Units' (ECU) in the current financial year. ECU is the indicator of heaviness of manufacturing of a particular variety of coach, which compares to a conventional second class coach, the statement added.
