After Nestle's decision to remove 'no added MSG (monosodium glutamate)' tag from Maggi, rival ITC has decided to do the same with their instant noodles brand Yippee. ITC sells Yippee under the Sunfeast brand.

The company, led by chairman Y C Deveshwar, has already started the process of removing the phrase from new batches of its products. ITC has stated its products have been found to be in compliance with all food safety regulations and safe for consumption.

"In connection with another brand of noodles, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India has expressed the opinion that such a statement is inappropriate. Therefore, ITC is voluntarily taking steps to remove the phrase 'no added MSG' from its labels in new batches of packaging and consumers should ignore this phrase on the current packaging," a statement from the company said.

Nestle chief executive officer Paul Buckle had earlier said that the company has decided to remove the 'no MSG' tag from the product label of Maggi even though the company did not use MSG in its products. FSSAI had earlier said that 'no added MSG' on the label of Maggi was on account of lack of clarity in regulation and that the company had followed a practice generally followed by the industry in this behalf.
