JCT Ltd is examining the possibility of venturing into diverse areas of technical textile. A Thapar group company, JCT ventured into technical textile in 2007, after having registered a turnover close to Rs 100 crore.
Venkat C Shekhar, vice-president (marketing), JCT, said the firm was examining the possibility of venturing into other areas of technical textile as well, which include Buildtech (textile used in construction and architectural industry) and Geotech (comprising geosynthetic products used to improve geotechnical properties of road, bridge).
At present JCT is engaged in the Sportech (textile used in sports and leisure wear) and Protech (textile used as protective clothing) areas of technical textile. JCT had ventured into the Protech and Sportech areas of textile in the first quarter of 2007.
Shekhar said in Sportech the company was supplying material to major sports company including Nike, Adidas and Reebok while Protech material was being supplied for defence application as well the fire retardant material was being exported to European countries as well.
The company at present is exporting 70-80 per cent of its technical textile products through different players.
Mukund S Apte, associate director, Technopak, says with the market for technical textiles in India showing healthy signs of a growth rate of 13.3 per cent and expected to grow fourfold and become $37 billion by 2020, many companies are showing interest in diversifying in the technical textile area as well.
