Engineering and construction major Larsen & Toubro (L&T) plans to set up a 1,600 Mw power plant in Karnataka, a top company official said today.

This will be a coal-based power plant involving an investment of Rs 10,000 crore," L&T's Senior Executive Director and Vice-President (Power Business) A K Chatwani told reporters here.

The plant will be set up in a joint venture.

L&T has several engineering projects in Karnataka and besides, has successfully built the Bangalore airport project.

Yeddyurappa said Shree Renuka Infra Projects has been given approval to set up a thermal power plant at an investment of Rs 5,500 crore."

Yeddyurappa was in Mumbai to showcase investment opportunities in Karnataka, whose capital Bangalore will play host to a global investment meet on June 3 and 4.
