Micromatic Grinding Technologies (MGT) Ltd, part of the Bangalore-based Rs 500 crore Ace Micromatic Group, is rapidly expanding its manufacturing facilities in the country.

The company, which manufactures various types of high-performance grinding machines, has just completed its first phase of expansion at Ghaziabad involving an investment of Rs 25 crore.

The company recently entered into a collaboration with Japan's $9 billion JTEKT Corp (formerly Toyoda Machine Works) to manufacture high-end cam shaft grinders.

This is used to produce cam profiles of small engine components like 2-wheeler camshafts. It is now in the process of setting up its third manufacturing facility in Bangalore. It intends to invest another Rs 20 crore to expand its installed capacity.

Said N K Dhand, Chairman, MGT, "We have just commissioned a new plant at Ghaziabad to manufacture one of the most advanced grinding machines jointly developed in technical collaboration with JTEKT Corp of Japan. This is India's first fully-airconditioned plant. We will focus on Bangalore for producing other high-end grinding machines which will have super finishing qualities. Our third plant at Bangalore will enable us to also focus on the export markets."

MGT's new plant will be located on a 10-acre land in Bangalore. The company is presently in the final stages of acquiring land from the Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board. The plant will be ready in two years.

Micromatic Grinding is likely to end the present fiscal with a turnover of Rs 55 crore and has set a target of achieving Rs 75-80 crore turnover in 2007-08 and Rs 100 crore by end of March 2009.

Under the new collaboration with JTEKT Corp entered into recently, the company has manufactured the second machine at its last plant in Ghaziabad.

The machine, displayed at the recently-concluded Indian Machine Tool Exhibition (IMTEX 2007) in Bangalore, will be supplied to Hero Honda Motors Limited early next month.

While, MGT will sell these high-end grinders in India, JTEKT Corp. will export them to various countries under the joint brand name "" Toyoda-Micromatic. JTEKT Corp was formed by the merger of Toyoda Machine Works and Koyo in 2005.

"Technical collaboration with JTEKT Corporation provides us access to cutting-edge and latest technologies of a global market leader. It will also help us increase our global foothold," Dhand told Business Standard.

The Ghaziabad plant has a capacity to manufacture 10 high-speed camshaft grinders in a year. Of this 70 per cent will be exported to Asian countries. The camshaft grinder ensures high precision and enhanced productivity.
