Mul Lines Up Esteem Variant At Rs 5.83 Lakh

Maruti Udyog Ltd (MUL) will shortly launch a limited edition variant of its mid-sized entry car 'Esteem' with a Rs 5.83 lakh (ex-show-room, Delhi) price tag, company officials said here today.

The country's largest car maker plans to roll out only around 1,000 units of the vehicle in the market.

The 1300-cc engine fitted car will have features such as complete leather upholstery, alloy wheels, rear spoiler with stop-lamp, key-less entry-cum-theft deterrent system, rear defogger, fog lamps, power antenna, wooden panels and wider tyres. The car will be sold in three colours, including a new 'starlite silver' colour, officials said.

The new edition is directed at consumers who make special vehicles purchases during the festival season. MUL manufactures three variants of the Esteem -- LX, VX and AX which are priced Rs 4.9 lakh, Rs 5.39 lakh and Rs 6.10 lakh, respectively.

Over 1.4 lakh units of Esteems have been sold since its debut in India in 1994. During the April-August this year, Maruti sold 4,960 units of the car.
