State-run navaratna firm National Aluminium Company (Nalco) is all set to build an aluminium park in Orissa, the Lok Sabha was told today.
The proposed park, a 50:50 joint venture with a state government enterprise, would come up at over 200 acres of land close to Nalco's smelter plant in Angul with an investment of Rs 75 crore.
"Nalco has informed that the company has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Orissa Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (IDCO) to set up an aluminium park in the district of Angul, Orissa," Mines Minister B K Handique said in a written reply.
"The proposed aluminium park at Angul is expected to promote downstream and ancillary industries that would encourage value addition within the periphery of the plant," Handique said.
At present, the aluminium and alumina producer has a 4.35 MTPA aluminium plant in Angul and plans to spend around Rs 22,000 crore to set up two mega projects, one each in Andhra Pradesh and Orissa.
It will also set up a 5-lakh tonne aluminium smelter in Jharsuguda, Orissa, along with a 1,260 Mw captive power plant at an estimated investment of Rs 16,345 crore.
