State-run NTPC would open the bulk tender worth Rs 25,000 crore for sourcing power equipment on January 28, a Power Ministry official said.

The global tender was floated in October last year for procuring equipment for 11 supercritical units of 660 MW each.

These 11 units include nine units for NTPC's coal fired power plants and two units for state-run Damodar Valley Corporation.

Supercritical units are environment friendly and improve the efficiency of thermal power projects. The equipment would be used in five power projects in Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra and Jharkhand.

The Cabinet Committee on Infrastructure (CCI) gave its approval to the bulk tender in September last year.

NTPC has invited separate international competitive bids (ICB) for boiler and steam turbine generator (STG) sets, i.e 11 boilers, generators and turbines.

Five companies — BHEL, L&T-Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) combine, Alstom-Bharat Forge, Toshiba-JSW and Italian company Ansaldo Caldie are believed to have submitted bids for this bulk order.
