As part of its corporate social responsibility, the Kaniha unit of National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) will lay stress on the provision of drinking water and roads in its peripheral villages.
The company is also trying to provide better health services to the local villagers, said the executive director of the plant, R, Venkataswaran.
Interacting with the media persons here, Venkataswaran said, the company is helping the local authorities to improve the infrastructure at Kaniha public health centre.
Besides, project affected people of the peripheral villages are allowed to take medical benefits from the NTPC hospital, he added.
Describing the accumulation of ash in the plant’s ash pond as a serious problem, he said, an empty coal mine (Jagannath coal mine) at Talcher has been allotted to the company for filling up with ash slurry.
While the ash utilization of NTPC as a whole remained 60 per cent last year, Kaniha plant recorded only 18 per cent ash utilization due to constraint in disposal.
Admitting that the Kaniha plant is constantly facing the problem of short supply of coal from the Talcher coalfields, he said, the crisis will be over once nearby Kaniha coal mine starts supply of coal to the plant and the silo system of Lingaraj mine, from where NTPC-Kaniha at present draws coal, starts operation
The general manager, S.K.Singh, deputy general manager (HR) Harikumar and senior manager, Satyakam and PRO, Vijay Kumar were present during the media interaction.
