Under a public private partnership (PPP) model, fabrics maker Raymond has collaborated with the Uttar Pradesh Skill Development Mission to impart training in tailoring craft to the unemployed youth of the state.

The company has forged similar tie-ups in skill development with other state governments as well, Raymond Limited Suitings president Sudhanshu Pokhriyal said here today.

In UP, Raymond has already trained over 500 students, while another batch of 150 candidates is currently getting trained at its Lucknow centre. Pan-India, Raymond has 5 such training centres, he informed.

Earlier, the company had signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the UP Skill Development Society (UPSDM) functioning under the state Vocational Education and Skill Development Department for starting the Lucknow unit.

Under this arrangement, the training space is provided by the state government, which also provides financial subsidy to the trainees.

Later, the trained youth have the option to either associate themselves with Raymond, join another company or simply pursue their entrepreneurial goal, Pokhriyal said.

Meanwhile, Raymond has also launched a social initiative ‘Look Good, Do Good’ in association with a non government organisation (NGO) Goonj.

Under the initiative, the company is offering free tailoring to customers in exchange of their old trousers, which would be distributed by Goonj to volunteers for charity. The trained students have been involved in this initiative.
