Reliance Communications' under- sea cable arm, Reliance Globalcom today said Saudi Arabia based Mobily has become its first customer to be activated on the recently launched Hawk submarine cable system.

"Mobily, a leading mobile communications and technology provider in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, is its first customer to be activated on the newly launched Hawk submarine cable system in the Mediterranean Sea," the company said in a statement.

Mobily had signed a 15 year IRU (indefeasible right of use) agreement with Reliance Globalcom, for purchase of multiple 10 Gbps of international bandwidth capacity, connecting Saudi Arabia to Europe and the US, it added.

Reliance Globalcom last week activated its Hawk submarine cable system in Egypt and integrated it with its global network in the Mediterranean region.

The statement said that using the Hawk cable system, Reliance has delivered capacity for Mobily's bandwidth requirements between Saudi Arabia and Europe.

"We are delighted to extend our ongoing relationship and deliver the first customer circuit on the Hawk cable system to Mobily," Reliance Globalcom Chief Operating Officer Rory Cole said.

Hawk cable system was built by Reliance Globalcom last fiscal to initially set up Mediterranean Gateway and Hub at Cyprus.

"This association is not only about offering low latency routes to our customers, but also to offer our customers the flexibility, diversity, and resiliency with improved performance on this new crucial route," Mobily Senior Executive Vice President (Wholesale and Carrier Services) Amer Abdullah Mowafi said.
