US-based Sonim Technologies, holder of the Guinness World Record for the ‘World's Toughest Phone’ is planning to tap the growing Indian market. However, the company said it has not finalized the go to market strategy in India. It also said that the phones will be expensive than the regular feature and smart phones.
“We have presence in almost all leading countries across the globe and now we have decided to enter the Indian market. We are in discussion with consultants to chart out plans for the India market, said Murlidhar Koteshwar,General Manager, Sonim Technologies.
The company which has presence in around 36 countries focuses on the industrial segment than the consumer segment. It is planning to enter India by the middle of 2013.
“Our models are build for people who work in mines, hilly construction sites, oil rigs and dense forest areas. In India also we will follow the same,” he said.
The company which employs around 200 people worldwide has a strong team of 80 in India.
“When we thought of a developing toughest phone for the industrial sector our India team was entrusted with the task. Over a team of 77 R&D engineers in Bangalore designed and developed the phone which is manufactured in China,” Koteshwar said.
