The Centre has notified Technopark Phase-3 at Thiruvananthapuram and Technopark Kollam as special economic zones. Technopark Phase-I, spread across 31 acres, and Phase-II on 86 acres have already been notified as SEZs.

Phase-3 will be developed over 92 acres of land. Technopark has already commenced construction of the building with a 1 million sft built-up area, a Technopark press release said.

In Phase 3, the IT park would allot land to IT/ITeS and infrastructure development companies. Support facilities like a 110 KV sub-station and water supply system are in place while work on sewage treatment plant, canal embankment and approach road, among others are in progress.

On the other hand, Technopark Kollam would be developed on 40 acres at Kundara on the banks of Ashtamudi lake. The Kollam facility would also be the first IT park in the country to have access through water transport. Work on canal embankment has already been entrusted to the Kerala inland navigation department.

Other works including construction of the building, 110 KV sub-station, water supply and sewage treatment plant are in progress. The first company is expected to commence operations at the park by early 2011, the release said.
