Two berths of the upcoming Dhamra port project in Orissa which are being taken up in the fist phase are likely to be completed by the middle of 2010, said Santosh K Mohapatra, chief executive officer of Dhamra Port Company Limited (DPCL).

Plans are also afoot to build 11 more berths for the port, he informed. DPCL, a 50:50 joint venture between Tata Steel and L&T, is developing the port.

The upcoming Dhamra port project in Orissa is going to become the gateway of economic prosperity for the state, and it would attract a number of small and large industries in the periphery, thereby resulting in development of the region, said Mohapatra. The socio-economic development of the people of Bhadrak and in other parts of Orissa will get a boost with commencement of the port operations, he added. Mohapatra was addressing a function at Dosinga, the place where the all weather port is being built.

On the occasion of 63rd Independence Day celebrations, DPCL had organised a function wherein the company distributed tri-cycles to three physically challenged persons and aid to three blind persons from the peripheral villages.
