Hyderabad-based Yashoda Group of Hospitals will be launching three mobile diagnostic units in a span of three years to provide free diagnosis of cardiac and cancer-related diseases to people living in remote and far-flung rural areas of the state.

"Initially, one mobile unit, which is currently under trials, will be launched within 15-20 days. The unit will be deployed in areas like Siddhipet and Khammam. Later, it will be increased to three, which would cover the rest of the state within three years," G Surender Rao, executive director of Yashoda Group of Hospitals, told mediapersons on Thursday.

The mobile units, each costing around Rs 2 crore, would carry advanced diagnostic equipment including TMT machines (treadmill testing), X-ray and ultra scanning.

It will be manned by a cardiologist and pathologist, besides lab technicians and nursing staff, he said, adding that the cost of the mobile units would be borne by donors.

To create awareness among the general public about the prevention and control of heart diseases, Yashoda is planning to conduct 'Hyderabad Heart Walk', coinciding with the 'World Heart Day' on September 24.

"Heart diseases including high blood pressure, obesity, high cholesterol and diabetes are causing 60 per cent of the deaths across the globe. Recent studies indicate that 25 per cent of the population in the country is suffering from either diabetes or high blood pressure. There is a high possibility that people suffering from these diseases are likely to be affected by heart diseases. According to a World Bank study, deaths due to heart diseases are expected to grow at an alarming rate of 100 per cent by 2015," he said.

The Hyderabad Heart Walk would be conducted at LB Stadium in the city at 7 am.
