Zee Entertainment June qtr profit rises over 20% to Rs 157 cr

The company's total income stood at Rs 842.96 cr in the reported quarter, up 20.7% from Rs 698.16 cr

Broadcasting major Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd (ZEEL) today said its net profit rose 20.6% to Rs 157 crore for the quarter ended June 30, 2012.

This is against a net profit of Rs 130.16 crore in the same period last year, ZEEL said in a statement.

The company's total income stood at Rs 842.96 crore in the reported quarter, up 20.7% from Rs 698.16 crore in the April-June 2011 quarter, it added.

Advertising revenues for the quarter stood at Rs 447.2 crore, which grew 18% over the corresponding period last year.

Subscription revenues also recorded 19% year-on- year growth at Rs 364.1 crore in the April-June 2012 quarter

Domestic subscription revenues stood at Rs 250.5 crore, while international subscription revenues were Rs 113.7 crore in the quarter.

"While business environment has stayed slightly weak, Zee continues to grow its business at a healthy level. The industry is looking forward to implementing the Digital Addressable System (DAS) in the first phase," ZEEL Chairman Subhash Chandra said.

The roll-out of digitisation will have a positive impact on subscription revenues, ZEEL CEO and Managing Director Punit Goenka said.

ZEEL has over 650 million viewers across 168 countries and runs channels like Zee TV, Zee Cinema, Zee Cafe, Ten Cricket, 9X and ETC Music, among others.
