Accounting regulator Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) is planning to launch a 24/7 television channel in the next couple of months to cater to the captive audience across the country.

The proposal has been submitted to the authorities (Prasar Bharti) and a final nod is expected in the next three months.

"This will be a unique move as the channel will help the students and all our branches spread across the country. Talks are being evaluated but this would be a channel which would not require any heavy investment,” said Subodh Agrawal, president ICAI.

This would be the first time that an accounting regulator outfit will come out with its own channel.

"The channel would expand our base by quite a huge extent,” he said.

Apart from the channel launch, ICAI has signed an MoU with leading global accounting regulatory bodies in countries like the UK, Australia, New Zealand. One can appear in select tests of regulators in these countries, and if passed, he or she can then carry on with a job of accountant in these countries.

It has also approached an African nation to offer technical support as the infrastructure and the operation level is minuscule there.

Meanwhile the new office of ICAI at Kasba is expected to be operational in three months and it has also bought a two acre plot in Rajarhat. ICAI has 133 branches across the country.
