All 172 newly inducted IAS officers have been asked to attend "without fail" an address by Niti Aayog's Vice-Chairman Arvind Panagriya scheduled for Thursday.

The Centre's stern directive comes days after 37 of these IAS officers were issued show cause notices for missing an interactive training session by Niti Aayog's member Bibek Debroy recently.

The IAS officers of 2014 batch, posted as Assistant Secretaries, are working in various ministries here as part of a new initiative by the central government where they start their career at the Centre first before going to their respective cadre states.

These 172 IAS officers are on three months tenure, beginning August 1.

Panagriya would be addressing the IAS officers on the theme "Indian economy--wherefrom and whereto" tomorrow.

"All Assistant Secretaries posted in various ministries or departments have to attend the aforesaid function without fail," an order issued by Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) said.

The Centre is organising a series of programmes, including those on the priority programmes like Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) scheme, for these IAS officers.

The DoPT had issued show cause notices to 37 Assistant Secretaries for not attending the interactive session with Debroy.
