DATA STORY: Covid recovery rates of 22 states better than national average; Andhra's at 98.82%

India on Friday reported a net reduction of 3402 to bring its count of active coronavirus cases down to 254,254, the lowest since July 6 and 75 per cent lower than the September 18 peak of 1,017,754. With a continuous trend of daily reductions, India’s share of global active coronavirus cases is down at 1.12 per cent (one in 89). The country added 20,035 cases to take its total caseload to 10,286,709. And, with 256 new fatalities, its Covid-19 death toll reached 148,994, or 1.45 per cent of total confirmed infections.
 
The count of recovered coronavirus cases across India now stands at 9,883,461 – or 96.08 per cent of total caseload – with 23,181 new cured cases being reported on Friday.

 

• With a daily increase of 20,035 in total cases, India’s tally of coronavirus cases has risen 10,266,674 on Thursday to 10,286,709 – an increase of 0.2%. Death toll has reached 148,994, with 256 fatalities in a day. Now the tenth-most-affected country by active cases, third by fatality, and second by total and recovered cases, India has added 139,864 cases in the past 7 days.
• India now accounts for 1.12% of all active cases globally (one in every 89 active cases), and 8.16% of all deaths (one in every 12 deaths).
• Backwards from here, the last 1 million cases for India have come in 36 days.
• The count of active cases across India has seen a net decline of 3,402, compared with 4,616 on Thursday. Five states that have reported the highest net increase in active cases are Uttar Pradesh (105), Bihar (71), Puducherry (21), Jharkhand (19), and Goa (8).
• With 23,181 new daily recoveries, India’s recovery rate has improved to 96.08%; the fatality rate remains unchanged at 1.45%.
• The Indian states and UTs with the worst case fatality rates at present are Punjab (3.21%), Maharashtra (2.56%), and Gujarat (2.16%). The rate in as many as 13 is higher than the national average.
• India’s new daily closed cases stand at 23,437 — 256 deaths and 23,181 recoveries. The share of deaths in total closed cases stands at 1.09%.
• India’s 5-day moving average of daily rate of addition to total cases stands at 0.2%.
• India’s doubling time for total cases stands at 355.5 days, and for deaths at 403.1 days.
• Overall, five states with the biggest 24-hour jump in total cases are Kerala (5215), Maharashtra (3509), West Bengal (1170), Chhattisgarh (1035), and Karnataka (952).
• Among states with more than 25,000 cases, the five with worst recovery rates at present are Kerala (91.00%), Uttarakhand (93.15%), Himachal Pradesh (93.58%), Gujarat (94.23%), and Punjab (94.58%).
• India on Thursday conducted 1,062,420 coronavirus tests, taking the total count of tests conducted so far in the country to 173,111,694. The test positivity rate recorded was 1.9%.
• Five states with the highest test positivity rate (TPR) – percentage of tested people turning out to be positive for Covid-19 infection (by cumulative data for tests and cases) – are Maharashtra (15.16%), Goa (12.79%), Chandigarh (10.9%), Nagaland (9.92%), and Kerala (9.62%).
• Five states with the highest TPR by daily numbers for tests and cases added – are Kerala (8.95%), Sikkim (7.79%), Chandigarh (5.63%), Goa (4.67%), and Maharashtra (4.66%).
• Among states and UTs with more than 10 million population, five that have carried out the highest number of tests (per million population) are Delhi (437056), J&K (289531), Andhra Pradesh (226452), Kerala (225251), and Karnataka (213960).
• The five most affected states by total cases are Maharashtra (1932112), Karnataka (919496), Andhra Pradesh (882286), Tamil Nadu (818014), and Kerala (760933).
• Maharashtra, the most affected state overall, has reported 3,509 new cases to take its tally to 1932112. The state has added 32,760 cases in the past 10 days.
• Karnataka, the second-most-affected state, has reported 952 cases to take its tally to 919496.
• Andhra Pradesh, the third-most-affected state by total cases, added 328 cases to take its tally to 882286.
• Tamil Nadu has seen its tally going up by 937 to 818014.
• Kerala has added 5215 cases to take its tally to 760933.
• Delhi has added 574 cases to take its tally to 625369.
• Uttar Pradesh has added 936 cases to take its tally to 585902.
