In a first of its kind tie-up in the field of renewable energy, Gujarat Energy Research and Management Institute (GERMI) signed an Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Haryana Power Generation Corporation Limited (HPGCL) to provide advisory services and extend its knowledge to various government agencies of Haryana.

"It is not just a deal for a service to be provided but we see this as a landmark initiative of knowledge transfer between two states to achieve a common goal towards sustainability," said Omkar Jani, principal research scientist (solar), GERMI.

GERMI will provide its services with the approach of "concept to commissioning" for developing solar projects in Haryana.

GERMI and HPGCL will work together to identify sites, check project feasibilities, provide complete project management support as well as capacity building with HPGCL through trainings.

The total installed generation capacity of HPGCL is 3,230.2 Mw. Haryana Electricity Regulatory Commission (HERC) has mandated the distribution companies of Haryana a solar Renewable Purchase Obligation (RPO) of 0.25 per cent of the total consumption of FY 2014-15. To meet this RPO, Haryana has set a target for installation of solar power capacities of 400 Mw in the next four years on ground, rooftops, canal-tops, on ash dykes, by constructing solar parks.
