Hyderabad communal clashes: AP guv orders magisterial probe

Governor also appealed to people to maintain peace and tranquillity and not to believe in rumours

Andhra Pradesh Governor ESL Narasimhan today ordered a magisterial inquiry into the Kishanbagh police firing incident in Old City wherein three persons were killed and several others injured in communal clashes.

The Governor, who reviewed the police firing incident with senior cops, also announced sanctioning of an ex-gratia of Rs 6 lakh each to the families of the deceased and Rs 50,000 each to those injured as per norms, besides free medical treatment for them.

Many persons, including ten police personnel, were injured in heavy stone pelting in the clashes.

Narasimhan said that compensation should be paid to the victims, who lost property in the clashes that broke out between members of two communities over alleged burning of a religious flag yesterday, as per the set norms.

The Governor also appealed to people to maintain peace and tranquillity and not to believe in rumours, according to Press Secretary to the Governor.

Indefinite curfew remained in force for the second day today under Rajendranagar police station limits of Cyberabad Police Commissisonerate here with deployment of a large police force and personnel of RAF and other central para-military force in the wake of communal strife.
