The Law Ministry is all set to launch its own television channel which will showcase discussions on issues like Triple Talaq and Uniform Civil Code (UCC) and present shows for legal awareness. There will also be debate shows on important judgements.

The ministry has sought a separate channel from a bouquet of 32 direct-to-home (DTH) channels launched by the Human Resource Development (HRD) Ministry called Swayam Prabha to broadcast programmes for school and university students, a report published in The Times of India, said.

The Law Ministry sought the operational rights for one channel from HRD Ministry.

Recently, Bollywood filmmaker Prakash Jha was commissioned by the government to make short films for the National Legal Services Authority (NLSA) aimed at creating legal awareness.

The ministry is now planning to rope Jha for producing shows on legal education. There is also a plan to commission production houses and law universities for content based on research and ground studies. the TOI report said.

Besides that the ministry will also create a data bank of documentaries, short films and clips.

Initially, programmes will be broadcasted for a few hours every day. However, once the channel gathers enough content, it will run 24/7.

The Law Ministry will be the first ministry in the country to have its own television channel.
