The development comes even as the order dated December 16 had specified only SUVs and private cars of 2,000cc or above won’t be registered in NCR till March 31, 2016.
An official at Gautam Budh Nagar Regional Transport Office (RTO) that covers Noida and Greater Noida said they were not registering CVs as well, since these are also diesel vehicles above 2,000cc engine capacity.
The official said an average of 2,000 CVs used to get registered in the district every month. Registration of diesel commercial vehicles is not allowed in Delhi. Smaller CVs, such as the Tata Ace, continue to be registered as its engine capacity is only 700cc.
The SC had doubled the charges levied on loaded commercial vehicles entering Delhi: now, a light CV has to give Rs 1,400 per entry, while a heavy vehicle has to shell out Rs 2,600 per entry. Empty CVs are allowed to enter Delhi at Rs 700 and Rs 1,300, respectively.
In another blow to transporters, the court has banned truck registered prior to 2005 from entering the city. Neighbouring Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Rajasthan — were directed to ensure that commercial traffic for destinations other than Delhi use alternative routes.
