In a letter to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, MCCI “strongly advocated” the establishment of the centrally-sanctioned IIT-Karnataka in Mysuru considering its merit.
“Mysore being first and foremost a knowledge hub even before Independence, attracted many technology institutions and stood in the forefront of starting the Mysore University. These institutions can complement the proposed IIT. Besides, many Mysureans are among the eminent pool of IITians, technologists and scientists across the country and abroad,” said MCCI President A S Satish.
Further, he said Mysuru happens to be the first choice of residence for eminent personalities as well. It also boasts of large developed industrial area next only to Bengaluru.
Satish said, co-existence of the IIT in the industrial corridor/area would give a further fillip to R&D and innovation start-ups.
It would also open up opportunities for better industry-institution interaction, thereby enhancing the entrepreneurial talent among the generation next of the region as well as of the state.
He expressed hope that representatives from all regions/zones of Karnataka would endorse establishing an IIT in Mysuru as it has been the most-favoured destination for people from across the state.
The MCCI reiterated its demand for an elevated high speed train linking Mysuru and Bengaluru, and urged the chief minister to take effective steps in the interest of proving better connectivity and help in the overall development of the region.
