The health of Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee is causing a lot of anxiety to the medical board, a medical bulletin said on Sunday.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's nephew Abhishek was admitted to the nursing home after his car hit the crane of a van towing a snag-hit milk van at Ratanpur, about six km from Singur on the Durgapur Expressway in Hooghly district on October 18.

He has been under treatment for five days and continues to suffer from mild fever and body ache. He also requires intermittent oxygen support.

"He is still feeling the effects of trauma of the accident. His heart rate was fluctuating on the night of October 21, causing concern to all," Belle Vue Clinic CEO Pradip Tondon said in the bulletin.

MRI scans confirmed Abhishek suffered an orbital fracture below the left eye apart from other minor injuries.

"The eye tests and other tests which he has been through resulted in satisfactory reports, causing some relief, however, it is an overall grim situation," Tandon said.

"Decision on the planned surgery would be taken soon based on the improvement in facial swelling below the left eye," he said.
