In a bizarre move just ahead of Bakri Eid, Haryana police is sniffing for beef in biryani, reports Times of India. The special task has been given by state government's Gau Sewa Ayog, to the police of Mewat, the only Muslim majority district of Haryana.

Ayog chairman Bhani Ram Mangla told Times of India due to several complaints of vendors serving beef, the decision has been taken. "According to the complaints we received, the vendors are mixing a little rice with the meat to camouflage it," he said.

The police has been asked to take immediate action against the vendors selling beef and the food and drug administration have been asked to ensure early reports of tests.

It must be noted that Haryana has the most stringent laws against cow slaughter with a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison.

The move comes as a shock to the locals as the state has been in news for crime against women and inefficiency of the police to handle law and order.
