You're reducing us to traffic cops: Delhi HC to market association

Delhi High Court has told a market association near Connaught Place here, which has appealed to it to pass orders regulating parking of cars, that it has reduced the court to a "traffic constable".

The court refused to pass any direction as sought by the Janpath Bhawan Market Association after noting that its earlier order to the area's station house officer to remove old and unused vehicles after a period of two weeks has been complied with.

"You are reducing us to a traffic constable. Have some mercy on the court. How cars are to be parked there has to be seen by the traffic police. People who park their vehicles there have to be vigilant," Justice Manmohan said.

The judge said that in view of the compliance, nothing survived in the 2011 contempt plea moved by the association and disposed it off.

The association had moved the court alleging that its January 2010 directions regarding clearing of building material from the parking area and removal of old and unused vehicles from there had not been complied with.

The court, while disposing of the contempt plea, said if there was any non-implementation of the judgement, the association can then approach it again.
