42% polling in Jharkhand till afternoon

An estimated 42 per cent of the electorate cast their votes till 1:00 pm in the fourth phase of assembly elections in 14 Maoist-affected constituencies in Jharkhand today.

According to Election Commission sources here, the polling was peaceful with tight security and air surveillance.

The polling will end at 3:00 pm.

Elections are being held for Bahragora, Ghatsila, Potka, Ichagarh, Majhgaon, Manoharpur, Chakardharpur, Torpa, Sisai, Gumla, Bishunpur, Simdega, Kolebira and Lohardaga seats.

There are 233 candidates in the fray.

Polling for 51 seats has been completed in the previous three phases while the final phase involving 16 seats will be held on December 18.

Results will be announced on December 23.
