While per capita GDP of India was higher than that of China till the 1960s, it is now much lower, at $3,372, compared to $8,032 in China. On education, India has made considerable strides, with the average years of education rising from 0.1 in 1880 to 4.5 in the 2000s. But this is still lower than in Kenya, where the average years of education are 6.1. Life expectancy in India has risen from 25 years in 1880 to 64 in the 2000s. While this is impressive, it is lower than what is observed in countries such as China and the US. On the index of democracy, however, the world's largest democracy is on a par with developed nations
