The Andhra Pradesh government has decided to provide Rs 350 per quintal over and above the minimum support price (MSP) for red gram, black gram and green gram to farmers.

The government has taken this decision pending the fixation of MSP for pulses by the Centre.

Following the state government's move, farmers will get Rs 1,750 for a quintal of red gram in place of the present MSP of Rs 1,400, and Rs 1,520 on both black gram and green gram during the current year, officials said.

Chief minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy would also request the Centre to make mandatory the blending of petrol with ethanol up to 20 per cent as part of the move to encourage consumption of maize in producing ethanol, officials said.

In Andhra Pradesh, pulses were grown in 18.93 lakh hectares both in Kharif and Rabi during 2005-06. This year it is planned in 22.25 hectares, according to official figures.
