Against the backdrop of economic stability in the state, Assam government has renewed its focus on private partnerships in areas of manufacturing and infrastructure development.

The Assam government is looking for private partnership in both the manufacturing and infrastructure sectors through Assam Infrastructure Financial Authority (AIFA).HS Das, additional chief secretary of the government of Assam said the specific areas for cooperation, supported by AIFA, included the Rs 1,800 crore Metro Rail Project, Rs 1,400 crore Sewerage Project, Rs 300 crore Brahmaputra Beautification project, Rs 200 crore Reclamation of Water Bodies Project.He said the state government was looking for partnership with the private sector in these projects for "delivering world class infrastructure".

He also mentioned that with substantial progress in rural roads and the national highways, it was "very important" to develop the state highways in the next few years. Das was speaking at a Confederation of Indian Industry (CII)-organised conference on infrastructure here today.

Leading a team of Canadian companies including LEA Associates, ICBC, Artex International, Rosaline Kwan, Senior Trade Commissioner (Northern India), High Commission of Canada, said Canada was keen to work with North-East India in areas of infrastructure; especially in building, construction, roadways, waterways and clean energy.
