Modelled on the lines of the '911' service in the US and other similar services in Europe, '108' will be a single-point call for help in any emergency situation that threatens life, health, property or order of life. EMRI has already started to offer ERS at Hyderabad and plans to cover Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada and Warangal in the next few days.
EMRI plans to establish and operate a centralised 24-hour Emergency Response Centre through a public-private partnership mode.
It will create soft infrastructure that will bring together crucial services provided by the Andhra Pradesh government like police, fire, medical and local government bodies and service providers such as hospitals, blood banks, ambulances, telecom providers and donors.
The ERS shall initially cover Hyderabad (including 10 surrounding municipalities) and will be expanded to the entire state over a period of time, said EMRI in a press release.
