The Congress yesterday said the party would go by the Delhi High Courts decision on the government-Suzuki dispute over appointment of RSSLN Bhaska-rudu as the managing director.

We will go by the court decision, party spokesman Ajit Jogi said.

Jogi defended party general secretary Tariq Anwars earlier stand which had given the impression that the party sympathised with Suzuki. Jogi said that the partys stand meant that if the country was inviting foreign investment it should not do something which shook the confidence of foreign investors.

Another senior party leader who did not wish to be quoted spoke generally on the wider issue of foreign ivestment and the new trend of opposing it on a case-by-case basis. He said as long as foreign investors go by the law of the land no finger should be raised against them.

The country had made certain laws permitting foreign investers to operate within them. The country could not afford to have open laws and closed mind and public posturing.

Giving example of the Asian Paints case, the senior leader criticised the Indian Industry which first went gung ho about pushing reforms in the country and later on started visiting leaders in private complaining against foreigners gobling up their companies.

Publicly they take the posture of great liberalisers, and in private, they come with folded hands for protection. This would not do. Let the industry pick up courage and speak up openly on what they want, he said.
