The state-run Nuclear Power Corporation has upgraded the operations of its computerised plant information system, a special control room to keep an eye on minute to minute developments at the stricken Fukushima unit in Japan and to supervise the operations of 20 nuclear power plants in the country.
Functioning round the clock, it gathers the information from television and various websites including those of the International Atomic Energy Agency and Japan Atomic Industrial Forum, on developments in Japan and to pass it on to Indian nuclear plants. Nageswara Rao, NPC’s director (operations), told reporters the control room keeps vigil on the various parameters for the functioning of Indian nuclear plants and also did video conferencing to make necessary changes or augmentation.
