The politburo of the CPI(M) is slated to meet here for a two-day brainstorming session, starting September, 5 to prepare its “rectification document” — do’s and don’ts for its comrades at all levels. The top brass of the party is keen to roll out these guiding principles quickly as corrective measures after its disastrous show in the Lok Sabha polls.

Sources in the CPI(M) told Business Standard that the rectification document will contain guidelines for members at all level — from grassroots-level workers to the ministers in the state governments. The document will be finalised in the next Central Committee meeting.

The party is set to face a tough year in 2011 as both Kerala and West Bengal will go to Assembly elections. In the 2009 Lok Sabha polls, the CPI(M) managed just four seats in Kerala and hit an all-time low in West Bengal with only nine MPs.

The party’s nightmare in West Bengal continues till date as it faced drubbing in the subsequent municipal polls and Assembly by-elections.

The party had also decided to bring out an “ideological document” — to refresh its views about various issues affecting the planet of communism — way back in 2005.

In 2008, after the Party Congress in Coimbatore, it was decided to prepare the document after the Lok Sabha polls. But top leaders of the party now admit that the rectification document has been accorded top priority and the ideological introspection has to wait further.
