CPI(M) today sought intervention of the Election Commission to ensure repoll in three hill sub-divisions of Darjeeling Lok Sabha constituency alleging that BJP and Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) workers violated democratic norms.
In a letter to the Commission, CPI(M) Politburo member Brinda Karat said there was a "serious" complaint on subversion of democratic rights by BJP and GJM workers in three hill sub-divisions of the constituency in West Bengal.
"Shockingly, the complaint includes the connivance of certain presiding officers as well as the strange inaccessibility of observers when their intervention was required," she said.
She said it was "serious enough to warrant intervention from the Election Commission. I do hope you will intervene to take the appropriate action to ensure re-poll in the affected segments of the constituency".
