A beleaguered Sheila Dikshit today got the support of Union Petroleum Minister Murli Deora, who called on the Chief Minister to express his solidarity and ensured all required support from his ministry to make the Commonwealth Games a great success.

With the Delhi Chief Minister under severe criticism for the capital's inadequate preparations for the event, Deora said he had promised to provide support to the state government as the Games was a matter of national pride.

"I have come to meet Shiela Dikshit to express my solidarity and all kind of support to her in making the event a great success. The image of the country is associated with the event and I have told her that we will provide all kinds of assistance and support to the Delhi Government," Deora told PTI after the meeting.

Asked whether the Ministry is extending any financial support for the event, Deora said: "The Chief Minister did not ask for any such assistance".

The Minister, however indicated that his ministry may provide man power support.
